Welcome to Craigmillar Medical Group

We are a modern general practice in the heart of Craigmillar and Niddrie offering a wide range of services to our patients. We are committed to providing high quality holistic care for all our patients and are always looking at new ways to improve our service.

Our practice team consists of doctors, a nurse practitioner, practice nurses, health care assistants, mental health nurses, a physiotherapist, community link worker and care coordinators. We work closely with the extended community team of health visitors, district nurses, and midwives. We are a dedicated teaching and training practice, providing teaching to medical students and trainee GPs.

Our building is also used by other NHS services such as CAMHS and sexual health, as well as a variety of groups from the community including Citizens Advice Bureau and ELCA, bringing care to the centre of the community.

Please note that all calls will be recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously.  Having relationships of trust is fundamental to everything we do for our patients.  We ensure that all our staff are up to date with their training on confidentiality and the NHS Lothian policy on use of social media.  Please be assured that we will always treat the information you share with us with the respect, sensitivity and confidentiality that you deserve.

We hope that the information in this website will help you to make best use of our services and promote your best health and wellbeing.

CCTV is in operation in and around the surgery building. This is for the purposes of crime prevention and public safety and our equipment complies with the Data Protection Act (GDPR) 2018.

News & Announcements

Lockdown January 2021:

Despite moving into higher restrictions, we remain open for our patients, and as before, will try to manage as much as we can over the phone or video consultation, to avoid people having to come into the practice unless it is necessary for more urgent tests or examination.  Unfortunately, like many of the hospitals, we will have to pause routine work for at least the next month so that we can prioritise more urgent problems and vaccine rollout for our higher-risk staff and for our patients.

If you are concerned about symptoms of COVID please call 111, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The number of people with COVID-19 in Craigmillar and Niddrie is higher than the rest of Edinburgh at the moment so please make sure that you are following the government guidance regarding face coverings, not mixing in groups and self isolating/testing if you have symptoms.  Up-to-date information about rates of COVID-19 locally can be found at this website: www.travellingtabby.com

We will be contacting our patients who are over 80 in the next few weeks to offer an appointment to have the COVID-19 vaccine.  Unfortunately due to limited supply we can’t do everyone at once. For other age groupings and those shielding NHS Scotland will send you a letter when it is your turn to receive the vaccine. Please do not contact the GP practice or NHS Scotland before this time.

If you have any questions about COVID vaccination, please check out the NHS Inform website which is regularly updated or call the national helpline 0800 030 8013.

If you are considered to be in the shielding category (extremely vulnerable to COVID-19) you will have received a letter from the Scottish Government in December.  This letter acts as your fit note (sick line) for any employer.  No further fit notes will be issued.
