Welcome to Craigmillar Medical Group

We are a modern general practice in the heart of Craigmillar and Niddrie offering a wide range of services to our patients. We are committed to providing high quality holistic care for all our patients and are always looking at new ways to improve our service.

Our practice team consists of doctors, a nurse practitioner, practice nurses, health care assistants, mental health nurses, a physiotherapist, community link worker and care coordinators. We work closely with the extended community team of health visitors, district nurses, and midwives. We are a dedicated teaching and training practice, providing teaching to medical students and trainee GPs.

Our building is also used by other NHS services such as CAMHS and sexual health, as well as a variety of groups from the community including Citizens Advice Bureau and ELCA, bringing care to the centre of the community.

Please note that all calls will be recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously.  Having relationships of trust is fundamental to everything we do for our patients.  We ensure that all our staff are up to date with their training on confidentiality and the NHS Lothian policy on use of social media.  Please be assured that we will always treat the information you share with us with the respect, sensitivity and confidentiality that you deserve.

We hope that the information in this website will help you to make best use of our services and promote your best health and wellbeing.

CCTV is in operation in and around the surgery building. This is for the purposes of crime prevention and public safety and our equipment complies with the Data Protection Act (GDPR) 2018.

News & Announcements

Patients aged over 70 will have received an appointment in the post to attend for their flu vaccine.  This will be combined with a booster dose of COVID vaccine if it is 6 months since your second dose.  Flu vaccinations are no longer being given by the practice but instead being done at mass clinics.

Unfortunately, some of our patients have been appointed to clinics outwith the city.  If you cannot attend your appointment for travel reasons please DON’T CALL THE PRACTICE.  Instead call 0300 790 6296 to reschedule your appointment.

Everyone else under 70 who is entitled to the flu vaccine will soon be invited to attend for their flu vaccination.  Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for up-to-date information about when this starts.

Further nformation about COVID-19, COVID vaccinations and COVID vaccination certificates can be found on our dedicated webpage.

Please be assured that Craigmillar Medical Group is open for patients.  As before, we are operating slightly differently whereby everyone requires to speak to a clinician first and a face-to-face appointment will be offered if that is felt to be needed.   Sometimes it is safe to deal with things over the phone and there is the option of video consultations as well.  We have a very high demand at the moment so please bear with us if the phone lines are busy.  We are doing our best to answer your calls as quickly as possible.

During the month of August (despite planned annual leave) our clinicians dealt with 4825 appointments, which were a mixture of telephone calls, face-to-face appointments and house calls.

There are still restrictions in our practice building as below as per the rules for health care settings:

  • The front door is open but we ask that only those who have been told to attend for an appointment or other reason come to the practice.
  • Wearing of a face mask remains compulsory in the practice building.
  • 2 metre distancing still applies in our waiting area.
  • If you have any possible COVID symptoms then please have PCR test done (lateral flow testing is not sensitive enough to exclude COVID-19, especially if you have symptoms).  You will not be seen in the practice if you have symptoms consistent with COVID and no PCR test result.
